Dispro · A free toolkit by Kaizen DSP
Build the plugin
you hear.
Turn an idea for an effect into a first working audio plugin. Shape it with ChatGPT or Codex, then build and test on your computer.
Free to use. Modify and sell the plugins you create.

From idea to audio
A clear place
to start.
Begin with a working gain effect. Use it to learn the path from source code to an audio plugin, then explore the sound you want to make.
Describe the sound.
Work through the signal path, controls and behaviour with ChatGPT or Codex. Turn a loose idea into a focused first version.
Start with something real.
The included mono LV2 gain example gives you source code and a local build you can inspect. New effect designs come with source and a plan for testing.
Know what works.
Run the example through offline audio checks and package the tested files. See what passed and what still needs a try in your DAW.
The first step
Small enough
to understand.
One input. One output. One gain control. A simple starting point you can read, hear and build on.
- A working LV2 exampleSource, build scripts, offline audio tests and a packaged plugin.
- Builds on your computerThe reference workflow is tested on Apple silicon Macs with Python and a C compiler.
- Your next effect, thoughtfully scopedExplore new DSP ideas with source you can review. The included build runner is limited to the gain example.
Before you begin
A few details.
Can I sell the plugins I make?
Yes. You may modify, distribute and sell audio plugins made with the supplied template, including commercial, closed-source plugins, under the generated-output licence. Dispro itself is a free proprietary toolkit; that permission does not include modifying or redistributing its builder or branding.
What do I need to build locally?
Python 3.10 or later and a C compiler. The included workflow is tested on Apple silicon Macs. A Linux build path is included but has not been tested; native Windows builds are not included. Check the getting-started guide for commands and requirements.
Can I use ChatGPT on the web or my phone?
Yes, for planning and source-code help. Building and testing an audio plugin needs an authorized local runtime. A web or mobile conversation does not give Dispro access to your computer. Use the downloadable package for now; a public ChatGPT directory listing is not available yet.
Will it work in my DAW?
The included example is an LV2 plugin tested offline. You still need to check it in a DAW that supports LV2. Dispro does not include AU, VST3 or AAX builds, or automatic signing and publishing. New DSP designs need their own testing.
